L'éditorialisation et la diffusion des archives audiovisuelles du Festival d'Avignon : de la remémoration à la réactivation de l'expérience : Étude d’une programmation audiovisuelle face à l’annulation de l’édition 2020

Abstract : In 2020, the health crisis led to the cancellation of a large amount of festivals. Though the Avignon Festival is a high point in summer for contemporary performing arts, its 74th edition had to be cancelled, just like many other cultural events. In response to an unprecedented situation, this institution relied on a collaboration with public service broadcasting in order to offer a digital program named “Dreaming of Avignon”. The audience was invited to maintain a connection, even though it was impossible to wander around the city of Avignon, to challenge oneself as a spectator and to experience the event as it usually takes place. This article is a step aside: it is not meant to study festival-going practises as it can be witnessed in the field. This study is rather about looking at how the event can still exist through memorial contents. This article therefore questions both the political and aesthetic stakes that these archives can provide.
